Yttrium tungsten electrode is tungsten electrode added with 2% yttrium oxide (Y2O3). Its grade is WY20. The W-Y electrode’s resistance to burning is good at high current load, but the arc is unstable at low current load and the processing performance is poor.
W-Y electrode, which has narrow arc beam, high compressing strength, and the highest welding penetration at medium and high current, is mainly applied in military industry and aerospace industry.
Similar to thoriated tungsten electrode and cerium tungsten electrode, yttrium tungsten electrode can be differentiated by its tip color - blue.
