Lanthanated tungsten electrode is a new tungsten electrode developed to replace thoriated tungsten electrode. Its conductivity is closest to 2% thoriated tungsten electrode. And it has good endurance of high current and low burn spoilage rate without radioactive pollution.
The lanthanated tungsten electrode is popular due to the relative ease of striking an arc and lower amperage required. It performs exceptionally well in both AC & DC applications. This type of electrode is effective for welding aluminum alloys, copper alloys, magnesium alloys, nickel alloys, titanium alloys, low-alloyed steels, and non-corroding steels.
Lanthanated tungsten electrodes are available in three grades: WL10, WL15 and WL20. And their color signs are black, yellow and sky blue, respectively.
The electrical performance of W-La electrode is significantly better than that of cerium tungsten electrode and thoriated tungsten electrode.
