95% ultrafine violet tungsten oxide’s morphology shows some aggregates, which are mainly composed of cluttered columnar or needle-shaped crystals. These aggregates are uneven in thickness, but have an aspect ratio of 20 or above. The morphology of violet tungsten oxide maintains the crystal form like the APT’s.
The figure above shows the morphology of single particle of violet tungsten oxide after ultrasonic dispersion. It can be seen from the figure that long needle-like particle in violet tungsten oxide have broken into short rod-like particle, and the surface has growth lines parallel to the long axis. There are also many blocky-shaped particles in the figure, indicating that the violet tungsten oxide does not consist all of needle-like particles.
From the above figure, TEM image of ultrafine violet tungsten oxide thin film, it can be seen that the grains in blocky-shaped violet tungsten oxide are columnar structures, and the size of these grains are not uniform with large difference in orientation. Therefore, despite there are blocky-shaped particles in violet tungsten oxide, submicron tungsten powder can still be obtained after reduction of VTO.
