WO3 has a low band gap energy and excellent catalytic activity in the visible range of wavelengths below 500 nm. Therefore, WO3 has applications in organic dye degradation and sewage treatment.

Compared with traditional solid phase method and sol-gel method, the appearance of hydrothermal synthesis method provides a new way for the preparation of nano-WO3.
