Rare earth market update on January 9, 2026
This week, domestic rare earth prices overall showed an accelerating upward trend. At the beginning of the week, although the incremental downstream demand was limited, supported by production costs, suppliers exhibited strong reluctance to sell and bullish sentiment; approaching the weekend, China introduced relevant policies to strengthen export controls on dual-use items, combined with demand support from the rapid development of emerging industries, jointly driving rare earth prices higher. The strengthening of China's export controls on dual-use items may further tighten overseas rare earth supply, pushing overseas rare earth prices upward, while further highlighting the strategic metal status of rare earths.
According to CTIA GROUP LTD, this week praseodymium-neodymium oxide prices increased by approximately RMB 23,000/ton, an increase of 3.65%; praseodymium-neodymium metal prices increased by approximately RMB 25,000/ton, an increase of 3.27%; terbium oxide prices increased by approximately RMB 300,000/ton, an increase of 4.76%; dysprosium oxide prices increased by approximately RMB 170,000/ton, an increase of 11.26%; 55N NdFeB blank prices increased by approximately RMB 3/kg, an increase of 1.11%; NdFeB scrap (praseodymium-neodymium) prices increased by approximately RMB 10/kg, an increase of 1.61%.
