Molybdenum market update on December 26, 2025
This week, the domestic molybdenum market overall showed a pattern of initial suppression followed by recovery. At the beginning of the week, due to relatively stalemated negotiation atmosphere between buyers and sellers and insufficient bullish support, product prices continued the downward trend from last week; towards the weekend, rising steel tender prices, gradual improvement in the international molybdenum market, and strong reluctance among raw material suppliers to sell while supporting prices jointly enhanced confidence among intermediate smelters to raise quotations, and driven by the increase in ferromolybdenum prices, other molybdenum product prices also recovered to some extent.
According to CTIA GROUP LTD, this week molybdenum concentrate prices increased by approximately RMB 10 per tonne-degree, up 0.27%; ferromolybdenum prices increased by approximately RMB 7,000/ton, up 2.95%; molybdenum oxide prices increased by approximately RMB 10 per tonne-degree, up 0.26%; molybdenum powder prices decreased by approximately RMB 3/kg, down 0.66%; sodium molybdate and ammonium heptamolybdate prices remained flat compared to last week. From this, it can be seen that this week, except for relatively large fluctuations in ferromolybdenum prices, the change amplitude of other molybdenum product prices was small.
On the news front: Data from the China Iron and Steel Association show that in mid-December 2025, steel inventory of key statistical steel enterprises was 16.01 million tonnes, increased by 1.26 million tonnes compared to the previous ten-day period, up 8.6%; increased by 3.64 million tonnes from the beginning of the year, up 29.5%; increased by 400,000 tonnes compared to the same ten-day period last month, up 2.6%; increased by 1.37 million tonnes compared to the same ten-day period last year, up 9.4%; increased by 990,000 tonnes compared to the same ten-day period the year before last, up 6.6%.
