Molybdenum market update on December 24, 2025
The domestic molybdenum market overall performed average. Amid the interplay of bullish and bearish factors, intense price bargaining between buyers and sellers led to product prices fluctuating in a narrow range and limited new orders. Under this background, some industry players expect the market to continue stable operation in the short term.
In the molybdenum concentrate market, the overall performance was firm. With buyers basically maintaining rigid demand and low willingness among suppliers to reduce prices for shipments, product transaction prices revolved around RMB 3,720 per tonne-degree.
In the ferromolybdenum market, the trend showed slight improvement. With steel enterprises successively tendering for ferromolybdenum, the rise in steel tender prices and strong production cost support jointly boosted the confidence of intermediate smelters to raise prices. Today, ferromolybdenum prices continued to increase by approximately RMB 2,000/ton.
In the molybdenum chemical and related products market, a strong wait-and-see atmosphere prevailed in the market. With buyers basically maintaining rational consumption and high price-supporting sentiment in the upstream market, sodium molybdate, molybdenum powder, and molybdenum bar prices consolidated around RMB 172,000/ton, RMB 450/kg, and RMB 452/kg respectively.
On the news front: According to monitoring by the China Iron and Steel Association, in November 2025 the average value of the China Steel Price Index (CSPI) was 91.47 points, decreased by 0.44 points month-on-month, down 0.48%; decreased by 6.10 points year-on-year, down 6.25%. Among them, the CSPI long product index averaged 92.52 points, increased by 0.29 points month-on-month, up 0.31%; decreased by 7.41 points year-on-year, down 7.42%. The plate index averaged 90.29 points, decreased by 0.88 points month-on-month, down 0.96%; decreased by 5.47 points year-on-year, down 5.71%. As of the end of November 2025, CSPI was 91.95 points, decreased by 0.39 points month-on-month, down 0.42%; decreased by 5.52 points from the end of last year, down 5.66%; decreased by 4.63 points year-on-year, down 4.79%.
