Molybdenum market update on September 26, 2025
This week, the domestic molybdenum market overall exhibited a steady but slightly weak pattern, with most suppliers adjusting their quotes downward amid continuously declining steel bidding prices, oscillatory drops in international molybdenum prices, and insufficient price support from the raw material side for downstream products. However, due to acceptable downstream inquiry enthusiasm and limited increases in raw material spot supply, molybdenum mining enterprises generally maintained strong price firmness.
According to CTIA GROUP LTD statistics, this week, the price of molybdenum concentrate decreased by approximately 10 yuan per ton-unit, a decrease of 0.22%; the price of ferromolybdenum decreased by approximately 3,000 yuan per ton, a decrease of 1.06%; the price of molybdenum oxide decreased by approximately 10 yuan per ton-unit, a decrease of 0.22%; the price of sodium molybdate decreased by approximately 4,000 yuan per ton, a decrease of 2.00%; the price of ammonium heptamolybdate decreased by approximately 4,000 yuan per ton, a decrease of 1.45%; and the price of molybdenum powder decreased by approximately 10 yuan per kilogram, a decrease of 1.96%. This indicates that the decline in molybdenum chemical product prices this week was greater than that of molybdenum raw materials, primarily because the price drop in molybdenum raw materials started earlier, while adjustments in molybdenum chemical product prices lagged behind.
In terms of news, according to the China Iron and Steel Association, in mid-September 2025, the steel inventory of key statistical steel enterprises reached 15.29 million tons, decreased by 530,000 tons from the previous period, a drop of 3.4%; increased by 2.92 million tons compared to the beginning of the year, a rise of 23.6%; decreased by 380,000 tons compared to the same period last month, a drop of 2.4%; decreased by 360,000 tons compared to the same period last year, a drop of 2.3%; and decreased by 470,000 tons compared to the same period two years ago, a drop of 3.0%. By region, steel inventories in East China decreased by 550,000 tons, Southwest China decreased by 30,000 tons, Central-South China decreased by 170,000 tons, Northeast China increased by 170,000 tons, North China increased by 40,000 tons, and Northwest China remained largely stable compared to the previous period.
