Molybdenum market update on September 22, 2025
On Monday, the domestic molybdenum market maintained a weak but stable operation, with product prices showing no significant changes and order growth remaining modest, as suppliers generally adopted rational shipping strategies and downstream users displayed acceptable inquiry and purchasing enthusiasm. Today, the prices of molybdenum concentrate, ferromolybdenum, and molybdenum powder are approximately 4,470 yuan per ton-unit, 283,000 yuan per ton, and 505 yuan per kilogram, respectively. Recently, steel companies bidding for ferromolybdenum include Zhejiang Dongte, Dalian Special Steel, Shanxi Taigang, Rizhao Steel, and Zhongtian Steel, with steel bidding prices around 280,000 yuan per ton.
In terms of news, according to the National Bureau of Statistics, in August, the value-added of industries above the designated size nationwide increased by 5.2% year-on-year and increased by 0.37% month-on-month. By the three major sectors, the value-added of mining increased by 5.1% year-on-year, manufacturing increased by 5.7%, and the production and supply of electricity, heat, gas, and water increased by 2.4%. The value-added of the equipment manufacturing industry increased by 8.1% year-on-year, and that of high-tech manufacturing increased by 9.3%, exceeding the overall value-added growth of industries above the designated size by 2.9 and 4.1 percentage points, respectively. From January to August, the value-added of industries above the designated size nationwide increased by 6.2% year-on-year. In August, the Manufacturing Purchasing Managers' Index (PMI) was 49.4%, increased by 0.1 percentage points from the previous month; the production and business activity expectation index was 53.7%, increased by 1.1 percentage points.
