I. Analysis of China’s Molybdenum Price Trends in May 2025
According to CTIA GROUP LTD, the price trend of molybdenum products in China during May 2025 was initially stable before experiencing a significant surge, with the total ferromolybdenum tendered by steel companies exceeding 12,000 tons. In late May, driven by tight molybdenum concentrate supply and rising tender volumes and prices, molybdenum mining companies noticeably raised their quotes, subsequently pushing up the prices of other molybdenum products.
According to CTIA GROUP LTD statistics, in May, molybdenum concentrate price increased by approximately 330 yuan/ton-degree, a rise of 9.51%; ferromolybdenum price increased by about 21,000 yuan/ton, a rise of 9.25%; molybdenum oxide price increased by about 330 yuan/ton-degree, a rise of 9.27%; sodium molybdate price increased by about 12,000 yuan/ton, a rise of 7.55%; ammonium tetramolybdate price increased by about 16,000 yuan/ton, a rise of 7.34%; ammonium heptamolybdate price increased by about 16,000 yuan/ton, a rise of 7.17%; molybdenum powder price increased by about 24 yuan/kg, a rise of 5.74%; and molybdenum bar price increased by about 20 yuan/kg, a rise of 4.40%.
II. Average Prices of Molybdenum Products in May 2025
In May 2025, the average prices of most molybdenum products in China increased month-on-month but decreased year-on-year. Specifically, the average price of molybdenum concentrate was 3,583 yuan/ton-degree, increased by 6.83% month-on-month, decreased by 5.54% year-on-year; ferromolybdenum was 233,737 yuan/ton, increased by 7.38% month-on-month, decreased by 5.50% year-on-year; molybdenum oxide was 3,667 yuan/ton-degree, increased by 5.83% month-on-month, decreased by 5.71% year-on-year; sodium molybdate was 162,211 yuan/ton, increased by 4.04% month-on-month, decreased by 6.93% year-on-year; ammonium tetramolybdate was 221,947 yuan/ton, increased by 3.58% month-on-month, decreased by 5.03% year-on-year; ammonium heptamolybdate was 226,947 yuan/ton, increased by 4.15% month-on-month, decreased by 4.30% year-on-year; molybdenum powder was 425 yuan/kg, increased by 5.20% month-on-month, decreased by 7.41% year-on-year; and molybdenum bars were 460 yuan/kg, increased by 3.84% month-on-month, decreased by 4.17% year-on-year.
From January to May 2025, the average prices of most molybdenum products in China decreased year-on-year. Specifically, the average price of molybdenum concentrate was 3,492 yuan/ton-degree, increased by 1.22% year-on-year; ferromolybdenum was 226,827 yuan/ton, decreased by 0.09% year-on-year; molybdenum oxide was 3,595 yuan/ton-degree, increased by 1.41% year-on-year; sodium molybdate was 160,888 yuan/ton, decreased by 1.91% year-on-year; ammonium tetramolybdate was 220,255 yuan/ton, decreased by 0.65% year-on-year; ammonium heptamolybdate was 224,235 yuan/ton, decreased by 0.51% year-on-year; molybdenum powder was 417 yuan/kg, decreased by 4.36% year-on-year; and molybdenum bars were 453 yuan/kg, decreased by 2.16% year-on-year.
