Molybdenum market update on May 23, 2025
This week, the domestic molybdenum price trend has shown a pattern of stability followed by an upward movement, with the price increases for many products being larger than last week. At the beginning of the week, product prices remained stable due to a relatively balanced supply-demand relationship and the absence of significant positive policy news. Toward the weekend, influenced by rising overseas molybdenum prices, coupled with strong reluctance from molybdenum mining companies to sell at lower prices and positive performance in steel tender volumes and prices, the price of molybdenum concentrate increased significantly, subsequently driving up the prices of other molybdenum products.
According to CTIA GROUP LTD, this week, molybdenum concentrate prices increased by approximately 80 yuan/ton-degree, a rise of 2.27%; ferromolybdenum prices increased by about 5,000 yuan/ton, a rise of 2.17%; sodium molybdate prices increased by about 4,000 yuan/ton, a rise of 2.50%; ammonium heptamolybdate prices increased by about 4,000 yuan/ton, a rise of 1.79%; molybdenum powder prices increased by about 10 yuan/kg, a rise of 2.39%; and molybdenum oxide prices increased by about 80 yuan/ton-degree, a rise of 2.21%.
According to the Baotou Industry and Information Technology Bureau, among the 14 steel-related products closely monitored in Baotou, two saw month-on-month price increases, while 12 experienced declines. Pig iron recorded the largest drop, with an average price of 2,658 yuan/ton, decreased by 85 yuan/ton month-on-month, a decline of 3.1%. Year-on-year, prices for all 14 products decreased, with high-carbon ferrochrome seeing the largest drop at an average price of 6,900 yuan/ton, decreased by 1,500 yuan/ton, a decline of 17.9%; seamless pipes had the smallest decrease, with an average price of 4,180 yuan/ton, decreased by 233 yuan/ton, a decline of 5.3%.
