Rare earth market update on March 25, 2025
The domestic rare earth market has shown a relatively subdued overall performance, primarily reflected in the stable prices of praseodymium, neodymium, dysprosium, and terbium products with no significant fluctuations and relatively stable trading volumes. From the supply side, influenced by factors such as strong support from production costs, optimistic development prospects for emerging industries, and professionals' predictions of the long-term value of resources, suppliers are less willing to sell at reduced prices, which to some extent limits the downward space for market prices. However, due to sluggish growth in terminal market demand and intensified industry competition, there is insufficient momentum for product prices to rise again. Today, the prices of praseodymium-neodymium oxide, erbium oxide, and dysprosium-iron alloy are approximately 445,000 yuan/ton, 297,000 yuan/ton, and 1,640,000 yuan/ton, respectively.
According to the Baotou Industry and Information Technology Bureau, in January and February 2025, among the 30 key monitored products in Baotou City, 15 products saw year-on-year growth in output. Among them, the output of rare earth compounds increased by 9.6%, rare earth magnetic materials by 66.2%; polysilicon by 73.3%, monocrystalline silicon by 113.4%; ferroalloys by 1.9 times; and aluminum by 10.4%.
