Rare Earth Market Update – March 21, 2025

Rare earth market update on March 21, 2025

This week, the domestic rare earth market has generally maintained a stable trend, with no significant changes in product prices and moderate transaction volumes. This stability stems from the conflicting dynamics of suppliers’ reluctance to sell and their firm pricing stance, juxtaposed against the difficulty of increasing downstream demand. Currently, industry participants are primarily focused on the issuance of the first batch of rare earth mining quotas for this year.

According to CTIA GROUP LTD, the price of praseodymium-neodymium oxide has dropped by approximately 1,000 yuan per ton compared to last week, a decline of 0.22%; terbium oxide has decreased by about 20 yuan per kilogram, a drop of 0.32%; and dysprosium oxide has fallen by around 20,000 yuan per ton, a decrease of 1.16%. Meanwhile, the prices of praseodymium-neodymium metal, 55N neodymium-iron-boron rough blocks, and neodymium-iron-boron scrap have remained unchanged from last week.

According to the Baotou Industry and Information Bureau, from January to February 2025, the industrial added value of large-scale enterprises in Inner Mongolia grew by 5.8% year-on-year. By major industry categories, the mining sector saw a 2.5% increase in added value, manufacturing grew by 10.3%, and the production and supply of electricity, heat, gas, and water rose by 7.1%. The equipment manufacturing sector recorded a significant year-on-year increase of 40.5% in added value, while high-tech manufacturing grew by 24.6%. In terms of specific products, raw coal output reached 207 million tons, up 2.0%; power generation totaled 135.98 billion kilowatt-hours, up 1.2%. Notably, renewable energy generation amounted to 41.35 billion kilowatt-hours, surging by 35.5%, while the production of monocrystalline silicon, polycrystalline silicon, and rare earth compounds increased by 43.5%, 47.8%, and 9.5%, respectively.
