Molybdenum market update on March 21, 2025
This week, the overall domestic molybdenum price continued to decline, primarily due to heightened panic among suppliers, persistent price suppression by steel companies, and limited influence from the international molybdenum market. However, factors such as steady downstream demand, increased support from production costs, and a stabilization and rebound in international molybdenum prices toward the weekend have led to a narrower decline in molybdenum product prices compared to the previous week.
According to CTIA GROUP LTD, the current price of molybdenum concentrate has dropped by approximately 30 yuan compared to last week, a decline of 0.90%; ferromolybdenum prices have fallen by about 4,000 yuan, a decrease of 1.80%; sodium molybdate prices have decreased by around 3,000 yuan, a drop of 1.89%; ammonium heptamolybdate prices have declined by approximately 3,000 yuan, a reduction of 1.36%; molybdenum powder prices have remained stable compared to last week; and molybdenum oxide prices have fallen by about 20 yuan, a decrease of 0.58%. This indicates that the price declines for both molybdenum raw materials and molybdenum chemical products have been relatively small.
Data from the National Bureau of Statistics shows that from January to February 2024, 36 out of 41 major industrial sectors maintained year-on-year growth in added value. Among them, the chemical raw materials and chemical products manufacturing industry grew by 9.5%, the non-metallic mineral products industry declined by 2.1%, the ferrous metal smelting and rolling industry increased by 5.7%, the non-ferrous metal smelting and rolling industry rose by 6.6%, the general equipment manufacturing industry grew by 9.5%, the special equipment manufacturing industry increased by 3.8%, the automobile manufacturing industry expanded by 12.0%, the railway, shipbuilding, aerospace, and other transportation equipment manufacturing industry surged by 20.8%, and the electrical machinery and equipment manufacturing industry grew by 12.0%.
