Adopting hydrothermal synthesis method and using sodium tungstate as raw material, metastable tungsten trioxide ultrafine powder can be obtained in a wide range of pH value. The obtained powder has high stability and small particle size. After the synthesized sample was irradiated by a 350W high-pressure mercury lamp for 10 minutes, the color of sample changed from light blue to dark blue, and when the sample was heated at 95°C for 30 minutes, the dark blue powder was oxidized by oxygen in the air to turn into original color.
